RealVideo with Media Player Classic w/o RealPlayer?

Is it possible to use the Real codecs for audio/video in Media Player classic, without realplayer installed? So far I have had no luck. Any help would be greatly appriciated :)

umm no its not i think but if you search around on reals site you will find a product called real enterprise desktop which is real player without as much of the shonky stuff (such as the stupid little popups) which normally come with real player and installing that will make real media work fine in mpc. Thanks for a reply. I've already tried that, but Im wondering what MPC uses to detect realplayer being installed. Kept the codecs in the same directory as a real install. Mimic'ed on of the registry keys installed, too. But it didnt work, maybe it looks for the realplayer executable or something? I am going to experiment a little more and see what I can find. Maybe I should just email the coder for an answer?

well........ the real answer is yes............. but you will need to know where to download the codec only pack..... ( since the codec pack is not offical )

Is there something wrong with installing RealOne V2 gold and use mpc as your playback device by associating all your *.rm files to mpc? No popup or annoying ads will take place if you do that; Look for how to get rid of those things. Read for the alternative solution; However, I believe the codec pak has been withdrawn due to copyright issue.

Like you I cannot stand the piece of bloatware/malware/crapware/spyware that is realplayer. Unfortunately many online radios use it (eg: BBC) and until mplayerc came along I was not able to listen to them. mplayerc is a godsend :) Here's how to set it up to use real audio/video codecs without having realplayer installed: 1. Install realplayer 9 (any version). I would recommend using a test system which you destroy after that, but you could also use a system restore point, or not care and simply remove realplayer once you finish. 2. Backup: * c:\program files\common files\real\common * c:\program files\common files\real\plugins * c:\program files\common files\real\codecs * c:\windows\system32\pncrt.dll (adapt the directories to your OS/installation) 3. Create a registry file with the following content (or similar): [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\RealNetworks\Preferences] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\RealNetworks\Preferences\DT_Codecs] @="C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Real\\Codecs\\" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\RealNetworks\Preferences\DT_Common] @="C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Real\\Common\\" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\RealNetworks\Preferences\DT_Plugins] @="C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Real\\Plugins\\" 4. uninstall realplayer if you need to 5.
