upgrade from 003 to hd 1

MessageAuthor

I was wondering if any le users tempted to trade there le rigs in for a hd rig now that digi has a good trade in deal until dec? I still dont think the deal is sweet enough for me yet since you only get the 96io instead of the 192. if they would have included the 192 io same price as with the 96io I might have been tempted. Makes some post digi le user, i would like to read what everyone elses thinks about it.

I was talking to the rep at sweetwater about getting an HD system and he informed me that the Native speeds of a lot of newer processors are starting to surpass the HD systems. He advised me to save some money and just get a baller computer and a 003... if I decide to go HD in the future (when Digi upgrades their boards) then I can more that likely still use the same computer but in the mean time I've got a great system... Now I just have to get a baller computer :)

Can't you still use native plugins on an HD rig? I mean, to me, these days HD is more about the ability to use lots of channels of I/O than it is about processing power...

As has been said before, this is a good opportunity to experience an HD system and have whatever bragging rights that go with it, as long as you can afford to take the hit on power. Native systems have the edge now on that front and promise to push even further in the coming months. It seems to be a question of what marketing angle will best serve you with your particular client base. From what I understand, an HD7 rig can still keep up pretty well. Our HD3 does not, but it's on an old G4. Yes, you can still use RTAS Plug-ins. And true, if you need more than 18 channels of I/O, Native PT may not be right for you.
