Reaper broken - opens and immediately closes

Well today I open Reaper and each time it opens, loads , the Reaper logo goes half faded and then it disappears. Sometimes it just hangs endlessly when trying to open. Nothing has changed since I last used the program. Anyone else experiencing this with this increasingly unreliable DAW ? It's infuriating

Nope. Never had a problem from the very beginning, been the most stable DAW I've used. Are you opening a project, i.e. last used? What happens if you use the Start Menu item in the Reaper folder "Reaper(64) Create New Project"?? If you are on Mac, not sure how you use that alternate start option, but someone will surely tell you. Have you just updated? Have you had a Windows update? Sometimes a Windows update can mess with your system audio settings, and set e.g. the default samplerate to 48Khz and change the default audio device. Blame MS for this - happens quite often and messes with many other softwares too! More info required from you of course to help nail this down. Something at your end is not right, else this board would be alight with complaints and mutterings! dB

The culprit seems to be trying to install the CSI protocol (following instructions to the letter posted on another thread in these forums) When I had dropped the files in their folders, that is when Reaper closed immediately. As soon as I deleted them the problem had gone.

Glad you sorted it ... not Reaper then per se ... I guess the 3rd party CSI's can be awkward ... have you mailed the author(s) of the CSI add-on you are using? Back to making music then? Good! dB
