Audio time question

I imported a song that I am doing a cover on, and set the project tempo to the tempo of the imported track, but as the song plays, the imported track gets ahead of the metronome. Is there a way to keep the imported track in time with the new tracks? Tried several track and item settings, but no luck. Thanks!

Is the song and the metronome at the same tempo, but offset? or does one gain relative to the other? >

It sounds like the imported track is actually at a faster tempo than your Reaper project.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Planetnine, the imported track gains relative to the tempo setting. Jacobestes, it's possible that the tempo setting is not exact, but it would have to be a fraction of bpm. It's not imperative that the new tracks line up perfectly with the imported track, just thought I might learn something in trying to resolve this problem. Thanks again, Milt.

it's actually very easy providing you can identify beats (in the waveform) that you know need to line up. First line two beats up (visually and audibly) at the beginning of the two media items, then temporarily slip edit the start of the file to that beat on the one you're going to timestretch (gives it a time-lock on that beat, then). grab the right-hand edge of that item and Alt-Drag it until the beats line up. Zoom into a waveform if need be; slip-edit the RHS if need be too. Once the beat of each media item is synched in this way, just drag out any temporary slip-editing you did. Easier to do than write an explanation for ;) >

If I'm not mistaken, depending on your timebase settings, changing the project tempo changes the playback rate of any audio clips in it. Might be worth checking the playback rate on the imported track.

importing loops from reason recorded at 108,000 

In the Reaper for ages, I have just set the key lane and the tempo to the same as the section of loops going in, it has worked, now it is playing them back twice speed, or puts them in and they are all wrongly going in in length. The first loops are half the length of the rest. The speed is not going constant, rendering any track written no good. How do I adjust the Reaper to accept the loops for each section so that it matches the tempo of the loops. "What am I doing wrong?' I have loads of tracks on my You Tube Nandalal108 page and have never experienced this before. I tried to delete the Reaper and to redownload it. Still same problem occurs. Any solutions.
