You'r Max Mph in 2nd gear? ... Mine is only 50 Mph? 

Hi I have a 1994 Volvo 850 SE 2.0Ltr 143Bhp, Now I seem to only get up to 50 Mph in 2nd gear. That is when I hit about 6000rpm. Am I falling to short of the rev range to go any faster?? I am not racing the car but just seem to feel a lack of power... Two people on here have now told me that I should be able to get up to 70 Mph in 2nd gear but they didn't say at what point in the rev range they changed gear. I am asking any one here with a N/A Volvo 850 (Excluding the TURBO models) .... WHAT SPEED DO YOU GET UP TO IN 2ND GEAR? Thanks Rich

The 2L 10v appears to do about 56mph in 2nd. I guess there's also some speedo inaccuracy and also depends a little on the size tyres etc The V70 2.4L 20v does about 63mph in second

70mph in 2nd gear with your engine? With a manual box? No. My modified T5 will exceed 70mph in 2nd easily, but it's producing about double the bhp of your setup and revs to 7250rpm.

just coming home from work 1996 850 estate 2.5l 10v redline marked at 6000rpm 5000-5500rpm is about 55mph (wouldn't think mine would pull over 60mph as the power is lower down and it'll kill the car redlining for long enough for speed to stabilise).

Speed for the revs in second sound fine if yours is a manual, I would say those with n/a's achieving 70 ish in 2nd are either reving the engine beyond 6,000 rpm or their car's are auto's and therefore have longer ratio's ;)

yes the engine will rev safely to nearly 7000 for a brief moment which is around 70 mph .... the rev limiter will then hold it back to just over 6000 rpm..

my 2.5 10v manual pulls about 60 in 2nd without redlining. very close to but not on the redline. nto sure exact speed as i havent really payed much attention but im pretty sure its around the 60 mark. ill give it a blast into work tomorrow and see just where it goes to in 2nd.
